Charelston, W.VA. (WVVA) – Appalachian Power says they do something just with regard to the reduction in the quantity of breakdowns that occur in serious weather.

The mid-May weather brought up to 50 gusts and led to a summit of 38,000 customers by losing energy, but the company says that the breakdown would have been even greater if it had not implemented its DACR technology.

DACR is the technology of reconfiguring the automation of the distribution of AEP which, according to the company, prevents you from customer service interruptions by tilting where the breakdowns occur and automatically changes the electrical service to a new line.

AEP says hundreds have benefited from technology last weekend.

“Some things, like a wind storm, are out of our control,” said Jeff Maynor, director of reliability of the AEP. “One thing we do to fight this is to invest in technology that will reduce the impact on our customers.”

The company also said that it saw “favorable results” of its vegetation management, indicating that its workers have maintained the approximately 60,000 miles of power line rights.
