Erin Witte, director of consumer protection for the Federation of America’s consumers, explains why a federal court has interrupted the transparency rule for airlines.
Hawaiian Airlines is days in the implementation of a new “non-presentation” policy that could potentially cause travelers lose money.
The airline has implemented the policy last Thursday for people who have a confirmed reservation but who do not board their flight to ticket. “We will cancel your flight reservation and all continuous and returned flights,” said Hawaiian Airlines in an advertisement on their website.
In addition, non-presentation guests will not be able to use the money or miles spent in non-refundable rates as credit towards a future flight.

To prevent people from losing all prices associated with non -refundable tickets, The airline Reminds people that they can adjust their reservations online or by contacting its reservations service by calling the 1-800-367-5320.
The airline says on their website that they understand that “life occurs” and those who are already at the airport But missing their flight can have options and they are invited to contact an airport customer service agent at kiosks or registration to get help.

The new policy applies to all non-refundable tickets purchased in the United States, without exemption for members of the elite of the Hawaiianmiles plan or mileage.
“Changes and cancellations on refundable tickets are based on the tariff agreement for these tickets at the time of the ticket office. Please consult your price rules,” said Hawaiian Airlines.

Hawaiian Airlines was acquired by Alaska Airlines in September 2024. The two airlines have now adopted a single policy concerning non-presentation passengers, a spokesman for Fox Business by e-mail said.
“By lining up on a single standard industry policy, we can offer our customers a more coherent travel experience to customers reserved for flights through our combined global network,” a statement said.
