North Carolina has marked the technological day with a dynamic celebration that presented the growing role of the State as an artificial intelligence innovation center (IA) in the Southeast. The event, presented by NC Tech and the North Carolina Economic Development Association, presented a technological breakfast and a engaging round table held at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh.

The panel, moderate by Teena Piccione, secretary and director of information for the State for the Department of Information Technology of Caroline du Nord, understood:

  • Dr Stan Ahalt, dean of the School of Data Science and Society at UNC-Chapel Hill
  • Brad Buland, Director of World Sales at Intel
  • Morris Nguyen, founder and CEO of Labs predicate
  • Sujatha “Suj” Perepa, CTO and distinguished engineer for AI and automatic learning at IBM
  • Scott Teapt, Vice-President and Managing Director of AI in Lenovo.

The governor of North Carolina, Josh Stein, published a proclamation declaring on May 11, 2025, as a technological day in North Carolina.

The proclamation underlined the impressive position of the state in the technological industry, noting that North Carolina has the ninth largest technological labor in the country, employing more than 300,000 people.

He also pointed out that women represent a third of state technological workforce, making North Carolina the main state in the United States for technology employees.

“I want to have this event next year and announce that North Carolina is the number one technological workforce in the United States,” said Teena Piccione, expressing its ambition for state growth in the technology sector.

Scott teasing of Lenovo has shared ideas on AI’s transformer potential, declaring: “The real value of AI is machines and machines working together.”

The round table also highlighted the importance of collaboration between private and public sectors, including government entities and educational establishments.

Secretary Piccione encouraged participants to visit Caroline du Nord’s educational institutions, to see what they do in technology and AI, and to find ways to work together.

While North Carolina continues to establish itself as a power of technology and innovation, it has also encouraged dialogue, collaboration and growth within the industry.
