This emerging technology can keep stable screens in a world still in motion

You scroll through your phone during a passenger in a car. Each bump on the road shakes your screen, forcing your eyes to refocus constantly. A sudden turn makes the words blur even more, and for a long time, you start to feel the tension.

Now imagine if your screen has adapted to movement, keeping the text stable as if it were anchored in space. No more discomfort, just a fluid and effortless experience. This is the idea behind the stabilized screen technology of the Honeywell movement.

A team of engineers from Honeywell Aerospace Technologies initially explored this concept when searching for augmented reality and advanced demonstrations, where keeping the moving information is essential. By applying these principles to the screens that you use in your daily life, Honeywell stabilized screen technology offers a way to make digital interactions more accessible, that you try to read a text in a crowded metro, exercise on a treadmill or adapt to a video with turbulence in a plane.

Stabilized screening technology of the Honeywell movement was not only an idea born in a laboratory but is rooted in real obstacles. Ken Leiphon, principal engineer, has seen a problem that many people encounter every day and have achieved how technology could help. Her mother has hands that can make it difficult to use a phone.

“I was so impressed by her perseverance because both hands were shaking and she was trying to type this text. And I was just sitting there thinking, (and if) we could take part of this technology for our upside -down instructor and apply it,” said Leiphon.

By trying to discover the first -hand effect, Leiphon carried out a test while using his exercise bike. He noted that by reducing the constant movement, technology seemed to help reduce eye fatigue and made its training more comfortable.

The technology / system detects movement and adjusts the screen in real time so that the text and the images remain clear. Basically, the product incorporates a standard screen with an inertial miniature measurement unit (IMU). This sensor, similar to those found in the VR and AR helmets, detects the smallest vibrations and movements, allowing an adjustment of the image position so that it remains fixed compared to your line of view.

“The way the correction works, we are trying to create a visualization experience similar to a window,” said Leiphon.

This is similar to how your eyes keep things stable when you look out a window. Even if you move, what you see in the outside world remains to the point. Honeywell’s motion stabilized screening technology uses the same idea, corresponding to your real -time movements to reduce nausea and strains, so screens feel easier to use and more comfortable in high situations.

Honeywell Aerospace Technologies researchers and engineers see the vast potential of this solution. The advantages can be applied in several environments where the movement of the screen makes it difficult to read, observation or interaction with content.
