Washington, DC – The President of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Marcia McNutt will explore the status of the American research company and strategies to navigate in a rapidly evolving scientific landscape in its second annual annual Address of the state of scienceJune 3 in Washington, DC
The country’s scientific company operates in a very different atmosphere since McNutt pronounced its first address in 2024. New challenges include strong decreases in federal funding and a changing research workforce, accompanied by continuous challenges such as intense global competition – in particular in areas such as artificial intelligence and quantification calculation. The event will bring together political decision -makers and the leaders of the academic world, government, private sector and philanthropy to discuss the research business and the actions necessary to guarantee that American science can continue to make vital contributions to the nation.
“I often say that” America cannot be great without much science “- it is fundamental for American economic growth, national security and prosperity and the well-being of all our citizens,” said McNutt. “In my second annual address, I hope to provide a clear image of the current trends in the research company, the probable results and the means that the scientific community can respond to this new and difficult environment.”
MCNUTT will explore progress and opportunities in specific fields that are essential to protect and strengthen the sciences of the United States-including the modernization of university-industry research partnerships, the reduction of administrative formalities so that researchers can concentrate their time and resources more effectively, by creating a stronger STEM workforce and by cultivating more public confidence in science. The address will be presented with data and evidence on the quality and vitality of the research company, education and employment and strategic and financing priorities.
After the speech, Kelvin Droegemeier, former scientific advisor to President Trump and director of the Office of Scientific and Technological Policy of the White House from 2019 to 2021, will moderate a discussion with other research leaders. A reception will follow.
