Arizona’s male basketball program posted a perfect NCAA academic progress rate for the third consecutive season in 2023-24, while nine other UA sports have also reached the 1000 upper score.
The NCAA, which Updated its annual metric For academic progress and retention on Tuesday, also awarded “public recognition prices” to male basketball, female cross-country and football to have an average of four years in the TAP in the most important 10% of their sports.
The NCAA Bases Awards and Penalties on the APR multi-year score, and the four-year rate of the AU Basketball team of 994 on equal place in the Big 12 schools. The Wildcats were perfect under the direction of the fourth year coach Tommy Lloyd, except in his first season of 2021-222, when the Wildcats displayed a score of 979.

The Arizona women’s cross-country cross-country program was one of the seven Big 12 programs in this sport to record a perfect multi-year score. In football, UA, Texas Tech and Utah have all had perfect multi -year scores among Big 12 schools.
Among the multi-year rates in the Big 12 programs, the AU football team ranked 12th with a 969, while women’s basketball was eighty with 989.
In 2023-24, other sports in Arizona publishing perfect scores 1000 APR included swimming and male diving and eight female sports: Cross-Country, Golf, Gymnastics, Softball, Football, Beach Volley, Tennis and Triathlon.
All UA sports have recorded multi -year prices comfortably higher than 930, the minimum score necessary to avoid penalties and be eligible for competition in the playoffs.
Arizona said five of its programs had or equal their program record for scores for several years APR, including football, football, female athletics, female cross-country and triathlon. The 994 male basketball score has been its highest pluriannual apr APR since 2015, while gymnastics (995), softball (996), male tennis (993) and female tennis (992) displayed their second best scores in the history of the program.
Unlike the graduation rates, the NCAA APR notes are relatively real -time measures of academic retention and admissibility in a program.
Each player generally represents four opportunities per year, one in retention and one in eligibility for each semester, and the percentage of success is multiplied by 1,000 to generate the score.
For example, basketball teams with 12 or 13 scholarship players would mark around 980 with a “miss” of academic ineligibility or retention during an academic year of two semesters.
In 2021-2022, when the male basketball program of the AU had a score of 979, three players left early for the NBA while two were transferred, so a leaving player had probably an academic demerit.
However, there are a number of ways of restoring – and there is no penalty for players who leave early and sign professional contracts, but do it while being eligible on the school level.
There are also no penalties for players who transfer but record an average of grade of approximately 2.0 or better.
Transfers used to need a GPA of 2.6 to avoid costing their old programs all points APR, but the NCAA moved to a less undertaken requirement in 2021-222, allowing transfers to win points APR for their old programs as long as they “meet the requirements of Division I Progress-Toward when they change eco”.
