Prime minister Mark Carney went to Washington, DC, before his long -awaited meeting with American president Donald Trump.
The Prime Minister’s office confirmed to Global News in an email that Carney will leave for the American capital on Monday afternoon. The meeting with Trump is expected to take place on Tuesday in the White House.
“I do not know what he wants to see me, but I suppose he wants to conclude an agreement,” Trump told journalists at the oval office on Monday when he was asked what he expected from the meeting.
Global News learned that Carney had to meet Canadian and American business leaders on Monday evening at an event in Washington organized by the Business Council of Canada. Carney should not have remarks during the event.
Carney’s meeting on Tuesday comes after Trump, in a Sunday interview on NBC Meet the press with Kristen Welker,, said Annexing Canada with military action is “very improbable”, A point of discord that could occur at the meeting.
Trump took the front of the stage and has become a major factor for voters of the recent federal elections who ended with the voters re -elected the liberals to their fourth mandate.
