Forestville – Rayvin Palmer may seem to be your middle ninth year, who likes to go in gym and have fun with friends, but he learned something unique in his time in the schools of Forestville.
An interest in programming led him to the coding of his own video games in class. Like many teenagers, Rayvin likes to play video games, but he went further in exploring his manufacture.
“Making original characters is what I like the most. It is an important part of the story if you meet a wolf or if you play like a titan or something,” he said. “My imagination is the best game, where I can make everything happen.”
Rayvin learned programming in James Pratt technology courses, but was recently presented to the Makecode Arcade program by his teacher, Laura Lebaron.
“I knew he had this interest, so when he was shared during a recent day in progress, I knew it would be perfect for Rayvin,” said Lebaron.
Makecode Arcade is a code editor and an online game engine designed to make retro 2D games accessible to students. It allows users to create games using an editor based on blocks or by typing code in JavaScript / Typescript.
Rayvin had his challenges with the software, but he found the reverse a fun part of the trip.
“There were things that could go wrong, but they were funny things. It’s easy as long as you don’t make the same mistakes as me. Like once, I have generated so many things that were not supposed to appear as much,” he explained.
Rayvin said he considered it a hobby that he is just doing for fun. “Once you are told to do something, you can no longer find pleasure,” he said.
When he was asked if he wanted to continue the design of the video game after high school, he kept his open options.
“It’s for the time to say,” he said. Fortunately, he has a few years before he could make decisions about the future.

Help for a next video game developer
By Rayvin Palmer
Makecode Arcade, manufactured by Microsoft, is a very interesting video game manufacturer. The most practical device necessary to run the Arcade Makecode program is probably a Chromebook or a laptop. It is certainly a virtual teacher who helps you step by step. This is how I made my first game according to his instructions, “Save-Dinos”. It is, fundamentally, just a kick, which means from left to right, the game. You play like Mama Dino, a T-Rex (or also known as Tyrannosaurus Rex, king of dinosaurs), walking on the highway to catch and save his newborns. You should avoid incoming tourists or lose one of the three lives.
The coding for the game is fragile. If you put a piece of code in the wrong place, for example, you can accidentally bring a lot of tourists to you! But, if you do it correctly, it will only be a baby dino or a tourist on the road, or both at a time. It is easy to understand and as easy to make, as long as you do not make the same initial mistakes as me, that is to say! A person interested in code or making video games (like me) would appreciate this type of virtual assistant because he helps teach the basics of coding, or as I heard in other words, “web code”.
