New York (AP) – The nominees for the first time Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker and Bad Company will be enthroned in the Rock & Roll Hall of FameA class that also includes pop star Cyndi Lauper, hip-hop outkast pioneers, the rock duo the White Stripes and Grunge Masters Soundgarden.
Salt-N-Pepa, the first act of female rap to reach gold and platinum status, and the late singer-songwriter Warren Zevon will receive the price of musical influence. The late producer of Thom Bell discs, pianist Nicky Hopkins and bassist Carol Kaye will each receive the price of musical excellence.
The Fire Cocker, which sang in Woodstock and was best known for its cover of “with a little help of my friends” of the Beatles, had the support of Billy Joel, Billy Gibbons of Zz Top and Pete Thomas, a member of Elvis Costello and attractions, who argued that Cocker is “roughly like the rock and the roll.”
Soundgarden – With the late Chris Cornell as a singer – enter the room during their third appointment. They follow two other grunge acts in the room – Nirvana and Pearl Jam. The bad company has become lighting with basic foods of the arena such as “Feel Like Makin ‘Love”, “Can’t Get Enough” and “Rock’ N ‘Roll Fantasy”.
The Ahmet Ertegun Prize – awarded to non -efficient industry professionals who had a major influence on music – will go to Lenny Waronker, former head of the Warner Bros. Who signed Prince and Rem, and participated in the discs of Madonna, Randy Newman, Doobie Brothers, Rickie Lee Jones, Paul Simon and Gary Clark Jr.
Some nominees who have not been obtained this year include Mariah Carey, Phish, Billy Idol, Joy Division / New Order, ManĂ¡, The Black Crowes and Oasis.
“The Twist” Checker’s recording, and “Let’s Twist Again” are considered among the most popular songs in the history of rock ‘N’ Roll. The 83 -year -old man expressed his frustration that he had never been granted before, in particular saying at the AP in 2014: “I don’t want to enter it when I am 85 years old. I’m going to tell them to fall dead, so you better do it quickly while I smile again.”
Lauper became famous in the 1980s with tubes such as “Time After Time” and “Girls Want to Have Have” and won a Tony Award for “Kinky Boots”. Outkast, made up of AndrĂ© 3000 and Big Boi, has six grammys and a reputation for pushing the limits of hip-hop. The white stripes – composed of Jack White and Meg White – were independent darling in the early 2000s with songs such as “Seven Nation Army”.
Artists must have published their first commercial recording at least 25 years before being eligible for induction. The enthronement ceremony will take place in Los Angeles this fall.
The nominees were voted by more than 1,200 artists, historians and professionals in the music industry. The selection criteria include “the impact of an artist on the other musicians, the scope and the longevity of their career and their work, as well as their innovation and their excellence in style and technique.”
Last yearMary J. Blige, Cher, Foreign, A Tribe Called Quest, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Matthews Band and singer-Guitarist Peter Frampton have all been inducted.
