Washington, DC (April 28, 2025) – North Hollywood High School won 3rd place in the National Science Bowl Competition held in Washington, DC representing Los Angeles, North Hollywood High School has demonstrated extraordinary scientific knowledge and teamwork against more than 65 regional high school teams in Science Bowl organized by the American Department of Energy.

The National Science Bowl is among the largest scientific university competitions in the country and the only sponsored by a federal agency. Since its creation in 1991, more than 325,000 students have participated in the program.
North Hollywood high school has faced a difficult competition, Montgomery Blair High School in Maryland has become the general champion and Lexington High School in Massachusetts obtained a second place.
The impressive performance of North Hollywood High School and winning first place in 2025 LADWP Regional Science Bowl In March, underlined their dedication and their excellence which lead them to represent the Los Angeles region in the National Science Bowl 2025. The participation of North Hollywood High School in the National Science Bowl not only highlights the academic expertise of the school, but also underlines the importance of STEM education to prepare students for future success in scientific fields.
The first place team won $ 5,000 for the school science department. The second place team will also receive $ 5,000 and the best 16 teams will each receive $ 1,000 for the scientific services of their schools. The members of the laureate team of the North Hollywood high school are Connor Zhao, Connor Chang, Mingao Guo, Suzuko Ohshima, Charles Huang.
For over 30 years, LADWP has committed to help students understand important STEM concepts and plan future careers thanks to the Science Bowl competition. Science Bowl follows a show format with a moderator asking questions of relaxation and bonuses of two teams of four students. The questions cover mathematics, science and technology subjects at the college level. Sixteen teams participate in tournaments around and double elimination.
