This test as told is based on a conversation with a federal entrepreneur for the Ministry of Defense in the metropolitan region of Washington, DC. They asked to be anonymous for fear of employment repercussions. Business Insider has verified their identity and employment. The test was published for duration and clarity.
My final goal was to work on the hill, or at the very least somewhere within the political domain of the federal government. This is what I would have said that my final goal was if you had asked me for the school.
I came from Texas for the school, I did a year in a New York college and transferred to American university because I wanted to have experience on the hill. I wanted my foot in the door to understand better how to find a job with the federal government.
I stayed in the region because it is the hub for everything related to the government.
I had my master because I had trouble entering the field of politics. I was told that it really helps, especially in the early stages of your career. I am happy to have done it because it finally landed me at least two jobs, so I am still following the decision.
Even if you told me in 2020, when I entered the program, that Trump was going to be elected and throw a key in everything, I would always do it – but I would always have my same concerns now.
I interned twice on the hill – once during my first cycle and once during my higher education. I worked for the Democrats, for a supply company from the Ministry of Defense, then worked in the space of veterans for a year and a half. I left to come to my current business.
I am an entrepreneur from the Ministry of Defense – a policies analyst providing contract support to a DOD office. This is the first position that I really occupied in the government, the first time I received skills titles from the federal government.
Employment security is certainly not 100%, but I feel more safe because I am in the Ministry of Defense.
However, I thought that the administration could take a cleaver to the federal government – on my field – and arrive at the place where my diploma was worth nothing.
The first term Trump was not also disruptive
Trump was elected during my second year at American.
The American University would have people from the State Department or other federal governments for seminars attracted, and they said it was always business as usual.
I did not have the impression that there was a slowdown or that hiring took a hit during Trump’s first term.
The first mandate and the second mandate were nocturnal.
I didn’t think it would be as hostile as now.
There have been massive repercussions for my field and the people I went to school with.
A friend worked for the Personnel management office For a month and a half in this administration. They are still looking for a new job.
My LinkedIn flow During the first two months of this quarter, people publish people: “I am looking for work. I can no longer work for this thing. The rif struck me.”
I am looking for a job outside the government
I submit curriculum vitae – not as much as if I was unemployed, but I submit curriculum vitae.
There is certainly more stress. Employment assignments for everything related to the government of the government. So, if I dismissed, it might be “what can I get?” Rather than: “Can I see myself working for this company?”
I used to walk in the work of the federal government due to security, pension and all these good things, in addition to the civic service.
Right now, I would not touch a federal job with a 10 -foot pole.
It would have to be a really, really sweet work – for which I would die. Right now, however, if you are offering me a federal job, I would probably not take it.
Before, I favored federal positions – things inside the sphere of the federal government. Now, if it affects politics at all, I look at it.
I am stressed and worried at work every day
The office I support has lost several people and they expect to lose more.
I am worried every day, I connect. I fear to wake up to a opinion of my boss saying: “Hey guys, we have a meeting with HR today”, or by learning the news that the contract has disappeared.
I have set up news alerts for all that is Pete Hegseth because it announces contract reductions.
Whenever I stop a meeting with the government, I am petrified that something will happen.
I can’t focus. I find it hard to sleep. I have anxiety.
I seriously reduced My discretionary expenses. Before, I put 20% of my pay check in economics; Now it’s about half.
I also reduced personal expenses. My fiancé and I are now going to eat. Last year, we go out every Friday, just to celebrate the work week. It went by the way.
There were cheaper gifts and less trips. I planned to visit my parents in Texas during the summer, now I’m really on the fence on this subject.
Before this year, I knew what was going to happen. I didn’t only know what the next day would look like, but I also knew what next week and the following month would look like.
Now, I don’t know what work I will do for them a month or two. It could be all the same, or it could be much more because they have lost people. And when they are going to need someone to fill the void, who do we put this on? The entrepreneur.
