When Nanaimo Resident Tod Maffin invited the Americans to come to her city to show their support in Canada, he didn’t think many would come.
However, it seems that he was wrong.
Maffin published a Tiktok video in February inviting Americans to visit this coming weekend and more than 2,000 people said they would come.
Some tourists were already in the city, while others said they were on the way.

“Even if 100 come, 100 people spending American dollars in this economy during the trade war are excellent,” Maffin told Global News.
“Listen, we are a city of resources,” said Maffin. “We are forestry and fishery, our roots are in mining. So that people come to spend money in our economy during a trade war when these resources are affected, it is only phenomenal. ”

Friday, Maffin will welcome everyone at Parc Maffo Sutton for a big family photo.
He promised to take tourists and show them all that the region has to offer.
