A 32 -year -old man was accused of second degree murder in the alleged “targeted” use of a vehicle to kill a haida Gwaii pedestrian.
Daajing GIIDS, Grid said that the victim was hit shortly after 1 p.m. on April 22 in the 200 -front Street Bloc in Skidegate, then died of his injuries.
“From the start of this collision, it was studied as a targeted attack, and at no time Daajing GIIDS GRID thought there was a risk for the larger community or its members,” said Daajing Giids GIIDS detachment. Chris Manseau said.
The family identified the victim as Luke Pearson, a resident of Skidegate and member of Haida Jus Eagle.
The RCMP said on Friday that the prosecutors approved the accusation of murder against Tyson Young.
“We think there was a long -standing problem between the suspect and the victim and we are trying to determine the cause of this and if that could have been prevented,” Manseau told Global News.
“What happened to this boiling point here now is the result of something that happened last summer and it was not pleasant,” added the hereditary chief Roy Jones Jr.

The community was placed within 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
“Luke was a proud uncle, a loyal friend, a devoted and attentive son and a cousin and a loving partner,” Pearson’s family said in a statement.
“He has humbly and humbly lived a peaceful and honest life. He worked hard for this life and had a very brilliant future for which he was excited … His life was stolen by malicious people in an insane act without reason, and our hearts are forever broken. ”
The Haida Nation Council also published a declaration on the death of Pearson.
“For the moment, please focus on family support and each other while remembering all of Luke’s kindness,” said the council.
“To all those who knew Luke, he was a kind, generous, attentive and innocent man Haida.”

The council added that it was a “full support” of the RCMP survey and to receive regular updates.
The RCMP has also rejected “publications on social networks questioning the calendar of the survey”.
Manseau said the police worked “24 hours a day on the case to collect evidence and speak with witnesses.
“Although an arrest is certainly an important step in any survey, the approval of the charges is still the ultimate goal,” he said.
“It is important that we take the time that we have to ensure successful prosecution.”
