I had already reserved an Amtrak bedroom, so I knew what to expect when I entered the space of 23 square feet – two seats facing the other which formed a lower berth at night, a tear table between them and another berth which lowered from above.
It has been almost four years since my last trip from Amtrak all night, and as soon as I sat, I could say that the seats were more recent and much more comfortable.
A spokesperson for Amtrak, Marc Magliari, told Business Insider that the whole fleet of Superliner obtained an interior refresh, and that 76% of them – including my walk – had already been updated.
“The seats have the same framework, but the cushions are new, and there is more lumbar support in this current design of siege cushion than the old seat cushion,” said Magliari. “If you see gray and vinyl seats, then you know you are in a fresh room.”
The vinyl was much smooth on my skin than the blue fabric seats in my ancient Amtrak accommodation. The improved siege cushions were not rigid as the old ones either.
I thought the seats alone made the New Amtrak room Cozier for a long journey.
