What this means: The Small Business Rundown features NFIB policy experts Tim Goodrich and Sharon Sussin to explain what the election results and ballot measures mean for small businesses.

Our opinion: “When we come in as NFIB, our state directors lobby and they are the voice of our members. It’s always helpful to have someone to talk to who has run a small business and can talk about the impact of regulations or the impact of a new labor law. It makes the conversation easier,” said Tim Goodrich, NFIB vice president of state government relations.

The election results are in, but what does this mean for small businesses? THE Small Business Recap Podcast covers the impact of small business owners who are elected and take on roles in state government, as well as an overview of ballot measures and policy perspectives in states across the country.

Sharon Sussin, NFIB Senior National Political Director, explained the NFIB endorsement process and how endorsed candidates fared during this election cycle. She explains the importance of small business owners running for office to advocate for small business issues. Tim Goodrich, NFIB vice president of state government relations, talks about important ballot measures, how the NFIB has engaged in certain initiatives, and how these measures could impact small companies nationwide.

Goodrich shares his expectations for state-specific issues, including minimum wage, energy policies and taxes. Small businesses hope election results will reduce inflation and The Wall Street Journal makes a possible connection on how small business owners feel about the economy, based on the NFIB’s November Optimism Index up eight points, the highest reading since June 2021. There may be other factors at play, but Goodrich points to some surprise victories that will shape the economy and benefit small businesses.
Listen to the fiftieth Small Business Overview episode: Small Business Election Victories and Legislative Prospects to learn more about small business victories and policy perspectives in states across the country.
