The mayor of a community of the county of Delaware made an emergency declaration while the possible closure of Crozer Health is looming.
The mayor of Ridley Park Borough, Henry Eberle, said that the potential loss of Crozer Keystone’s health system has a negative impact on residents and qualified the situation as “disaster”.
The emergency declaration allows the coordinator of the emergency management of the district and other officials to take all the measures they deem necessary in order to provide for the well-being of residents.
Uncertainty for Crozer Health
The declaration of emergency came into force on the same day as the Crozer’s CEO announced that he would move April 18, 2025.
Tony Esposito sent an email to employees on April 15 announcing his departure after five years with the company.
All this occurs while the health system is on the verge of closure.
During an audience last week, a lawyer for Prospect Medical Holdings, owner of the Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital in the county of Delaware, said that there were both “good news and bad news”.
Lawyer Bill Curtin said the good news is that there will be no immediate closure of these health establishments.
Lawyers said the The hospital system needed $ 9 million at 4 p.m. Wednesday from last week to keep its doors open. Curtin said he had been able to obtain $ 6 million.
The funds were a combination of $ 5 million from Penn Medicine with the help of the Pennsylvania Attorney General, who is “mainly a donation”, according to Curtin. The county of Delaware also provides $ 1 million.
This maintains the open doors for another “week to 10 days,” said Curtin. He added that the “bad news” is that the hospital system cannot simply continue to prolong time and must move to a long -term solution.
To avoid steep closures, Curtin said that certain services will be transferred from Crozer, such as its Obgyn services. We do not know what other services will be affected.
About 3,000 people are employed by this hospital system.
