In an open challenge, NASA is looking for innovative commercial models that offer new approaches to solve complex problems in earth science using unconventional computer methods and organize an information webinar on Monday, April 28.

The agency Beyond the challenge of algorithmSponsored by the Terre Science Technology Office of NASA, requires proposals to understand more quickly and more precisely our original planet by using transformative calculation methods such as quantum computer, quantum automatic learning, neuromorphic computer science, memory in memory or other approaches.

The challenge beyond the algorithm started in March and consists of three phases. The submissions of the participants, which are due on July 25, will be assessed according to creativity, technical feasibility, impact, assessment of commercial models and presentation. Up to 10 finalists will be invited to present their ideas to a panel of judges during a live event, and the winners will be a monetary prize.

For more details on the challenge, interested participants can register for the information webinar on Monday, April 28, here.

Using the point of view of space, the observations of the earth of NASA increase our understanding of our original planet, improve lives and safeguard our future. The capacities of the NASA Earth Science Division include the development of new technologies, the delivery of the useful sciences and the supply of environmental information to meet the increased demand for more sophisticated, more precise, more reliable and more usable for decision -makers and decision -makers.

For example, rapid analysis of floods is an area that can benefit from computer progress. The risks of flood affect personal security and the use of land, directly affecting individual livelihoods, community goods and infrastructure development and resilience. The advanced ability of flood analysis allows contributions to protect and serve affected communities, making a tangible difference in fields such as disaster preparation, recovery and resilience.

Progress of IT capacities is promising to overcome the power of processing, efficiency and performance limitations of conventional calculation methods to resolve the challenges of earth sciences such as the rapid analysis of floods. Quantum computers offer a fundamentally different calculation paradigm and can solve certain classes of problems exponentially more quickly than their conventional counterparts. Likewise, Quantum automatic learning offers the potential to reduce the required training data or produce more specific models. The emerging domain of neuromorphic or inspired IT is significant for the development of optimized algorithms for high -speed power. And IT in memory saves time and energy for heavy data processes such as the formation of artificial intelligence.

Blue Clarity hosts the Beyond the algorithm challenge on behalf of NASA. THE NASA Tournament Laboratorypart of Price, challenges and crowdsourcing program in the Department of Space Technology Missionmanages the challenge. The program supports global public competitions and crowdsourcing as tools to advance the research and development of NASA and other mission needs.
