Students of the Queens Scholars Academy Academy witnessed the future of fire fight Thursday when the FDNY robotics unit arrived with high -tech demonstration.

The demonstration shows how to use technology for good, say the students

The Rockaway Park Stem school – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

“We are really delighted to be the first school in the district to organize this event and to be able, hopefully, share this with other schools,” said director Michele Smyth.

The first stakeholders showed how they use thermal drones to access places that are difficult to access and locate people in distress.

“People always talk about how much we are counting on technology now, but they don’t really realize how it can do it,” Oluwafisayo Ogunsola said.

Robot dogs help responses to dangerous materials, the building collapses and emergencies underground.

“These dogs are actually very good for walking on the metro tracks,” said Andrew Scharf, with the FDNY.

FDNY hopes to influence young minds

The educators hope that the lessons will arouse the curiosity of the students.

“I hope they will find new ideas for career opportunities and internships while they are starting to prepare for their university learning,” said Dylan Persaud, advisor to the LycĂ©e robotics club.

For members of robotics and mathematics clubs, it was a chance to see their passions applied in a fascinating way.

“I think it’s really cool to see how the real implications of drones work, to see how we can use them in other situations,” said Jada Mohan, a 11th year student.

For the FDNY, it was an opportunity to welcome the next generation in the public service.

“I know that some of the children here could design the next drones we buy for FDNY, and I would like to have this influence on someone’s young life,” said Lieutenant FDNY Fred Carlson.
