Northfield, vt. – For Daniel Bogre ’27The Norwich University represents both the family and the opportunity. The native of Colchester, vt.
“I chose to come to Norwich because of the opportunity that this school gave me,” said Bogre. “The fact that a family member comes here before me made the decision much easier.”
Bogre quickly embraced the life of a Division III student-athlete, in competition in both male basketball and male football in the first year. Its ability to balance two sports while excellent in class reflects the discipline required at this level.
“Being an athlete in division III means discipline,” he said. “It means being locked up at any time on the field and in class. Having the ability to balance both was a blessing at this level.”
In his first season with the male football team, Bogre was part of an unforgettable race for the Northeast Sports Conference Tournament (GNAC). As a seeded n ° 5, Norwich amazed the competition, winning victories on the road on n ° 4 Albertus Magnus and the n ° 1 of Saint Joseph (Maine) to reach the GNAC championship match. This thrust of the playoffs has created a sustainable memory for Bogre – one that was reinforced when he experienced another race in the playoff series with the male basketball team.
“The most rewarding part of my trip here in Norwich was the family and friends I made along the way,” he said. “Having the opportunity to shop in the playoffs in two sports gave me the opportunity to get closer to my teammates and my coaches.”
Bogre and the basketball team reached the GNAC semi-finals during its first year and returned to the playoffs during its second year, qualifying for the quarterfinals Gnac. Although his role in the court was not defined by individual statistics, his contributions as a teammate and competitors were invaluable.
Among the many protruding facts of his young career, two moments stand out.
“My favorite memories in Norwich (are) the chance to play for a conference championship with the football team and go to the semi-finals with the basketball team the same year,” he said. “It gave me the motivation to want to be in this situation every year.”
Bogre’s experiences have shaped his prospects, and as he continues his journey, he hopes to inspire future athletes in division III to trust the process.
“My advice for children who come to a DIII is to stay calm and focus on your job,” he shared. “If you stay the course and focus in class and work hard in the field, your goals will be achieved.”
With two more years in front of him, Bogre remains focused on taking time in Norwich – pushing himself and his teammates to reach new heights in basketball and academics.
