The Street Castro Fair can be flooded in take -out cocktails this year, because the SF supervisors’ advice has just made Castro the last district to obtain “entertainment zone” privileges where bars can sell containers open to revelers of the festival.
San Francisco has so far approved three “Entertainment zones”, “ In other words, designated street zones where bars and restaurants can sell beer, wine and cocktails at street holidays and festivals if the event stops in the streets of cars. These are generally fairly small areas.
THE Entertainment zone head on Street is only a block in the financial district, the one in Chase Center just cover This prosperous city region and some individual blocks in the city center, and the Entertainment area Cole Valley only covers four blocks.
But the supervisor Rafael Mandelman proposed an entertainment area in Castro This would give cocktail privileges to 17 to 17 whole blocks from the Castro district. And on Tuesday, the SF supervisor council unanimously adopted this new entertainment area of the Castro district.

The dimensions of the new Castro entertainment area are visible above, and the boy is covers many restaurants and bars. The area extends to Market Street from Church Street to Collingwood Street (eligible bars include Blackbird, Beaux, Hi Tops, The Cafe, The Lookout and to come Rikki women’s sports bar) and the 18th rue de Diamond in Sanchez Streets (Bar Hobby, Toad Hall, Badlands, The Edge, Midnight Sun, Moby Dick, The Mix and Last Call). He also has the section of the 14th street between the streets Landers and Belcher (Churchill and Last Rites), and Church Street between the 14th and 15th streets (the Pilsner Inn).
The board of directors adopted the new entertainment zone unanimously and without discussion. But the district of the community of Castro Community Benefit certainly had something to say in their letter to supervisors urging them to approve it.
“Currently, alcohol sales during a street fair go to an outside and hired seller,” wrote this group in a letter on March 1. “The appointment of the entertainment area allows bars and restaurants in the area to benefit from the special event. Instead of an outside seller, participants in the street fair will be able to enter any bar in the footprint, buy a drink and walk outside with him, always part of the outdoor party. ”
That said, handcrafted revelers cannot take this drink outside the “red lines” of the entertainment area. And once again, this can only happen during designated events of the street fair where the streets are closed to cars, like the Castro street fair – a fair that tends not to extend on all these blocks.
There are several other SF entertainment areas that arrive in class. The Stephen Sherrill supervisor offered To add this designation to a party of Union StreetAnd just Monday, mayor Lurie moved to Add five new entertainment areas: A section of five houses from Valencia Street, Pier 39, a block on rue Ellis, a block on rue Folsom and Yerba Buena Lane.
