Most of us are witnessing UNC for a small fraction of our life. Although somewhat aware of the fact that we should benefit as much as possible from our university years, we are often swept away by monotony or the rigor of courses and work. Music offers many of us a constant backdrop for the responsibilities of daily life, listening to our reading lists while we walk, eat and study.
But we are fortunate to frequent a university that can fill these silences for us.
Students artists and local groups play regularly for neighboring sites, in a wide variety of genres: stapler has rock,, emo has choral; Almost all types of music you can think are interpreted here. WxycThe Student Radio Station, has a crowd of unique DJs Mixing and Curating Songs, 24/7. Student sets have put symphonies and presentations with each semester. Even the fraternities hire groups of students or DJs to play during events and parties. The UNC musical microcosm has been growing for centuries and has transformed into an environment we can and must benefit from.
There are dozens of musicals Student groups and tickets are often reduced or free. Events on the campus are at a distance from walking and we have free transport to travel in town. Generally, there is no other moment in our lives when we will have the same means, business or energy to attend such well -made performance. We must take advantage of the availability, the range and the quality of live music around the campus to organize our university experiences.
The music is like a glue holding UNC and the community surrounding together. Going down Franklin, you can hear the jazz of DrinkStreet musicians in Crosswalks and a variety of filtering sounds. There are advertising posters for free programs and sets of local musicians and in grass plastered on countless display panels. The opportunity to connect with something as healing and humanist as live music surrounds us, almost inevitably. While the buildings and companies that we spend every day can become repetitive, the art of performance injects life into our common areas.
Not being cliché, but there is really something valid for everyone here. If you want a good conversation or to do work, you can attend a jazz evening in a quieter bar, where students improvise classic and contemporary tunes. If you need to relax or think for a while, Memorial Hall welcomes magnificent performances of several hours. If you want to learn an instrument yourself, the practice rooms on the campus are often open – it is even entertaining to listen to the surrounding practicing musicians.
It can be easy to contract a vision of the tunnel or feel disconnected during college. The experiences led by the students are supported by the campus are inspiring and reminds us of appreciating our peers and our community. Faced with the ability to consume media that we want as many times as we want, we can start taking artistic talent for granted. Live music forces you to be aware of ephemeral moments.
Live performances and the music scene change, but colleges have always been a societal backbone, dictating the value of culture and information. It is more important now more than ever to decide the value of live music around the campus thanks to our involvement.
