Technology is progressing rapidly, but at a rate that risks expanding gaps between those who benefit from it and those who do not.
When solutions are available, they are often inaccessible, either by design or intention, because the needs of various groups of people are not taken into account, and the licenses and commercial models exclude a large network of innovators who can adapt them for the benefit of disadvantaged and marginalized groups.
The need is clear:
- 31% of women around the world are not in education, employment or training.
- 740 million women in developing economies remain without bench,
- More than 21 million adolescent girls in low -income and intermediate countries are pregnant each year.
- Only 2% of global funding for medical research is allocated to pregnancy, childbirth and female reproductive health.
$ 100,000 for technological solutions for women
The Unicef Capital Repair Fund Identify the solutions that go beyond health care – others that allow women and girls in a holistic way. This means responding to their specific needs in the way that recognizes the circumstances that affect them disproportionately or differently while attacking social and economic motors that shape their participation, their agency and their well-being.
Unicef Venture Fund seeks to test, validate and shape technologies in three key areas:
- To improve the results for the health of women and girls, that is to say
- Digital health solutions for prevention, diagnosis and treatment
- Platforms focused on AI or data on maternal, reproductive and adolescent health data
- Reference services for demand for health care and culturally relevant information
- Take up the unique challenges faced by women and girls, that is to say
- Close the gender data gap to generate inclusive decision -making
- Improve the accessibility of platforms for poorly served communities, including disabled people
- Design solutions that fall under specific gender challenges in different cultural and economic contexts
- Empower women and girls socially and economically, that is to say
- Expand financial inclusion and access to economic opportunities
- Allowing sure access to education, training and strengthening skills
- Support agency, decision-making power and labor participation
The fund offers up to US $ 100,000 in funding without actions to early profit -based startups taking advantage of border technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), data science and blockchain for social impact.
