When you see a Massachusetts State police cruiser with its lights and sirens, your car may already have alerted the risk of the coming road.

The I-TEAM learned that the ministry has installed new technologies in 233 of its cruisers designed to prevent collisions.

Transponders installed in the cruisers

Haas Alert makes the system called security cloud. It works through transponders installed in the cruisers who are activated when a soldier lights the lights and sirens.

The system then sends a digital alert to the conductors of the area via the car infotainment system or a navigation application.

Brock Aun is with alert Haas. He said to the I-Team: “If you use an application like Waze, you will get an alert from Haas in the same way as you get other alerts. And this alert appears 30 seconds before reaching this danger on the road, either on your phone, or on the infotation screen.”

Society affirms that the system saves lives.

Massachusetts mortal crashes

Massachusetts data showed in 2024, there were 133,333 accidents and 355 were fatal. Until now, during the first three months of 2025, there have been 23,241 collisions 50 involved deaths.

In some of these collisions, drivers crashed into police cruisers. State police told Team I bought in February in February, paying $ 135,000 for equipment, installation and service.

The money came by a subsidy of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The ministry also says that it was used to alert more than 200,000 motorists.

“Drivers are more distracted than ever,” said Brock Aun. “The purpose of this is to take these lights and the sirens that we are used to seeing us, and to extend the scope of these lights and sirens in the vehicle to warn the people they present themselves on a danger to which they might not expect, so they are more likely to slow down and move.”

Hass Alert, the company that manufactures the security cloud, said the Massachusetts state police is not the only agency to use the system, telling the I-TEAM that there are nearly 100 police, fire, EMS and state towing companies that also have the technology.
