Pastor Doug Harris opposed the candidacy of the Superintendent of Dr. Tiffany Reban, urging the congregation to act.
Deer Park, Texas – a local pastor has publicly opposed the candidacy of Dr Tiffany Rejea as ISD DU CERF PARFThe next superintendent, citing concerns about his personal life.
During a Sermon on Sunday, March 16, the pastor of the Baptist Central Church Doug Harris joined his congregation against Reban, warning that his direction would bring “alarm clock, liberalism and sexual immorality” in the school district.
“She lives a lifestyle that is not dangerous and immoral. She lives a lifestyle which, as believers, we would not tolerate, but condemn,” Harris told her congregation. “In fact, she has a lot of experience, and she is well educated. The difficulty is in her morality.”
Harris encouraged the members of the church to contact the members of the School Board in opposition to the appointment of REGAN. He then published a follow -up video on Facebook, saying that he had met Dr. Rejea after his sermon.
“I was able to express them that my position is rooted not only in the Word of God, but it is really rooted in love, even if some of you can disagree,” said Harris in the video.
Dr. Régan, who has worked for Deer Park Isd for 30 years and was recently the deputy director of education, was appointed finalist for the Superintendent after the school board interviewed more than two dozen candidates.
Public members have until April 4 to comment.
In response to the controversy, the president of the school board Jason Cable defended the decision of the council in a press release:
“As Chairman of the Board of Directors, I would share that the Board of Directors of Deer Park ISD has remained attached to a fair, transparent and legally compliant hiring process in the selection of the next superintendent. The decision of the board of directors to appoint Dr. Tiffany Rejea as a lonely finalist required for this role.
“As a public institution, we join the employment and federal laws, which prohibits discrimination based on certain personal characteristics unrelated to professional performance. Our goal was to guarantee that the best candidate is in place to direct our district, promoting an environment that supports all students, educators and families.
“I recognize that there are different prospects within our community, and that the commitment and passion of those who invest in our schools are appreciated. However, the Council will remain firmly in our commitment to make decisions rooted in qualifications, integrity and what is best for our students and our district. ”
Khou 11 contacted Dr. Rejea and Pastor Harris. None of the two returned our requests for comments.
