ST. Petersburg, Florida – The White House said on Monday that she planned to stop “Goerging through intermediaries” in the live entertainment industry.
Often called Scalpers, people and robots buy tickets when put on sale, then sell them double and trip the value of the tickets.
Alex Harris, a well-known and awarded artist from Saint Petersburg, said that this type of thrust was necessary in the live entertainment industry.
“Years ago, people would stand out, they would be on the streets, and they would probably do it again (selling scalpped tickets),” said Harris. “But with the bots, it has really become more sophisticated and will certainly allow people, artists, especially because you have to count tickets.”
Harris played around the world, and earlier this year in New York, he made a fan told him how they were almost dupped to buy the double tickets.
He said he had even witnessed this to happen in the Tampa Bay region too.
“I was going online and said:” Well, the tickets are like double and sometimes triple the price. So I think that it will really work in favor not only artists, but also promoters and other people who, and above all, people who work every day, regular jobs, just want to go out and enjoy music, but do not have much disposable income, “said Harris.
The executive decree orders federal agencies to enforce existing laws, leading the American prosecutor General Pam Bondi and the Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to ensure that the Scalpers comply with the rules of the IRS.
He also orders the Federal Trade Commission to ensure “the transparency of prices at all stages of the ticket purchase process”.
Harris believes that the law will help protect all live entertainment jobs, because ticket sales do not only pay the artist and the place.
“These types of laws help us continue to help people do a decent salary. And that’s what we are, because not everyone will be on stage under the spotlight. There are so many others that you are a place, to become the owner of a place or to work for a place, “said Harris.
Bay News 9 contacted several music sites in the Tampa Bay region. None was available to comment.
