Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealth’s insurance unit, was fatally shot in the chest Wednesday morning outside the Midtown Hilton hotel, the NY Post and Bloomberg reported, citing law enforcement sources.
UnitedHealth did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
The company was holding its investor day on Wednesday, which was closed prematurely due to a “very serious medical situation” with one of its team members, said Andrew Witty, CEO of UnitedHealth.
The NYPD Deputy Commissioner’s Office said a man was shot outside 13356 Avenue in the Midtown North neighborhood.
He was transported to Mount Sinai West in critical condition before being pronounced dead, the New York Police Department said.
There are no arrests at this time and the investigation is active and ongoing. Identification of the deceased person is now pending proper notification to family, the department said.
