What prompted you to start filming the content “what I eat in a day”?
As type 2 diabetics, I saw a lot of different answers and solutions to people online for how they help their bodies acclimatize to this glucose insensitivity, and often what I find is either a super restrictive diet, and I fight with food disorders, and therefore it was not something that resonated with me.
I thought, I know that I cannot be the only person who fights this way. … So I started to share (in 2023) because it was realistic and it was full of hope.
What is your ethics when it comes to creating food content?
What works for me is not what will work for you. Everyone’s body has different needs. We could both have type 2 diabetes or SOPK (polycystic ovary syndrome), but that does not mean that our solution will be the same, and then take everything with a giant salt grain … And if you are someone who publishes, you have the responsibility to make sure that you would not promote the troubles to eat or something like that.
Why do you think your content resonates with people?
I think because I am 34 years old and I probably have cheese macaroni. But I think people also like to see people who look like them and who look like them. When I was diagnosed for the first time with type 2 diabetes, it was really difficult to find people who were talking about being diabetics, because there is so much shame, there is such stigma around him. So I think we have serious to each other. I cannot even tell you how many people sent me a message like: “No one knows that I have type 2 diabetes, but I tell you because you have inspired me.”
If you could condense what you learned about nutrition in a few wisdom nuggets, what would they be?
There is another designer Liza (@lizalosingweight), she said the sentence: “Eat what you want, add what you need.” And it changed my life. … The food association is something that fascinates me, because you can have a bagel and also have something full of fibers next to it, have fruits and vegetables. Nothing is prohibited, but find out how food works.
What is a basic rehearsal food?
A breakfast meal that I have is a grilled cinnamon bagel with very melty cheddar, then you make a tight egg on top. And I promise, it’s so good.
With your ethics and your concentration on sustainability, how to filter partnership requests?
Basically, if I promote it, I used it. I like that. I love him. And I say to myself: “Ok, great, I’m talking about that anyway.”
What do you think of the trend of society to cross body image and aesthetics with food and food?
How long do you have? It bothers me a lot. I lost more than 100 pounds. It is the first time in my life that I have lived in what is considered my smallest body, but it is always considered a larger body. … We must learn to separate that someone’s size of the body is not an indicator of their health.
There are different health problems that can come overweight, to be obese, and I used to work in health care, so I understand this. And also, because I worked in health care, I understand that they are not always married with each other. Everyone’s goal is not to lose weight. In society and as health care providers, we must ask: “What are your objectives?” I think society is looking to be automatically hateful towards people who live in larger bodies. The thinner person who eats five different McDoubles is rented, against this other person, having only one sandwich, but because they are in a larger body, they are discriminated against.
