Rockford police chief Carla Redd knows that the application of the law is not an easy task. But with technological advances, she says that officers have electronic acolytes at hand.

From the ball detection software to more than a hundred license plates readers through the city of Rockford, Redd says that his officers are well equipped to fight crime.

“We have a great team that works here this end of technology and ensuring that the information is advancing.”

Deputy deputy chief Ty Eagleson says that officers use Public security platform flockos To monitor city cameras and follow service calls in real time.

“It is not a 100% resolution with these tools, but it is a tool that helps detectives and officers who speak to the bad guys, making initial investigations and follow -up,” said Eagleson.

At the end of 2024, Homicide resolution rates were 89%. Today, this percentage is 94 years. The mayor of Rockford, Tom McNamara, indicates the increase in the budget of 58% which allowed offers to access a new and improved technology.

“It helps to identify offenders more precisely and, ultimately, make our neighborhoods safer,” said McNamara. “Public security does not only concern officers on the streets, it is a question of ensuring that they have the equipment, once again, to do their work safely.”

Despite the advantage, the technology provides the ministry, RedD says that it does not discredit the hard work of the city officers and does not eliminate the need for community members to report crime when they see it.

“The technology is excellent, but we always need all hands on the bridge,” said Redd. “We don’t want anyone who feels that they are not necessary at this stage because of technology.”
