Madison, Wisconsin (WMTV) – UW Health strives to develop its use of artificial intelligence technology to improve patient visit experience, officials said in a statement on Thursday.

AI technology would be able to record, transcribe and analyze the discussion between a health care provider and patients during an appointment.

Dr. Joel Gordon, director of medical information at Uw Health, explained that this tool would give suppliers more time to focus on patients during appointment and reduce the time spent in administrative work.

“This tool allows the members of our care team to look away from the screen of their computer and not to focus between their notes and their patient,” said Gordon. “It also means that providers are experiencing a significant decrease in office burden, resulting in a reduction in professional exhaustion and improved practice of practice. Early measures show that this already makes a positive difference. ”

Uw Health said he started a pilot program in June 2024 with 20 suppliers, who were based in Wisconsin. At the end of this year, Uw Health said they had about 100 ambient listening users.

The tool can also summarize the condition of a patient and filter non-medical discussions, said Uw-Health.

Dr. James Bigham, who is a family medicine for Uw Health, said he loved how this tool organizes notes and always allows him to connect with patients.

“If I speak to the parent of a patient in the last basketball game of his child, that would not go in the notes, but the tool allows me to have more of these links with my patients because I do not take notes in real time,” said Bigham. “It’s really a remarkable innovation.”

In the first half of the half, Uw Health plans to deploy technology to 300 other users of the clinic, which would total 400 users in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.
