The consumer price of British Columbia on carbon should have left in a few weeks, the government is considering a potential hole of several billion dollars in its budget, without easy solution to fill it.
As one of his first power in power, the new Prime Minister Mark Carney reduced the federal obligation for a carbon price to zero.

British Columbia Minister of Columbia, Adrian Dix, said that his government will now be a commitment to BC focus, the British Columbia Consumer Carbon – Canada’s first.
“You will not have long to wait. The province will present legislation before the end of the financial year, which is on March 31,” said ten.
“The Prime Minister was very clear that if the federal government acted to remove the tax on consumption carbon, we will follow suit and we are.”
According to British Columbia’s budget in 2025, the consumer carbon price was to generate around $ 2.8 billion in income, while about $ 1 billion has returned to the public in the form of the climate tax credit.
Quinzé on the fate of these tax credits and how the province will fill the gap, ten said that the public will have to wait for the details of the British Columbia Minister of Finance.
Last week, the Prime Minister of British Columbia, David Eby, seemed to suggest that some of them can come from major greenhouse gas transmitters.

“I want to reassure the people we will make sure that the big polluters continue to pay,” said Eby.
“Not because we want them to be taxed, but to encourage them to adopt the technologies that reduce emissions to make sure that we continue to progress in the fight against climate change.”

Significant issuers are currently contributing to just under $ 200 million in the provincial budget each year thanks to the price of the province’s industrial carbon.
Mark Zacharias, executive director of Clean Energy Canada, said that maintaining an industrial carbon prize would be a good policy.
It is both because it is about three times more efficient than the consumer price in the reduction of emissions and because certain major trade partners such as the European Union factory the intensity of carbon in their import policies.

“If this carbon intensity is too high, they have in fact put a sample on it before it enters the country. It therefore offers Canada a truly inherent advantage over the United States,” he said.
At the same time, Zacharias argued that the attempt to compensate for a large part of the $ 1.8 billion hole in the British Columbia budget, the suppression of the consumer tax will create.
The increase in price too high for companies could make them repress the investment, or worse, move to another jurisdiction where they are free to emit as much carbon as they wish with lower or without penalties.
“We are in a trade war with the United States, we have a world economy that does not seem so healthy right now,” he said.
“It’s probably not the time to try to make the difference in tax change taxes to each other.”
While the province strives to solve its income problem, the British should see an immediate decrease in the price of certain energy products such as petrol and domestic heating fuels.

“I think we will see a reduction in the price of the pump almost automatically on April 1,” said UBC political scientist Kathryn Harrison.
“Both federal and provincial at $ 80 per tonne which translates between 17 and 18 cents per liter of petrol.”
Harrison said the question was now whether the political battle will go to the price of industrial carbon with the death of the consumer price.
The conservative chief Pierre Hairy has already started to plead in terms of suppression of this policy as well as the prospects for warming the federal spring elections.
“What will be interesting is the extent to which carbon tax and controversy on carbon tax are based on the political agenda,” she said.
“Is it central or is it not in the next federal elections?”
