Prime minister Mark Carney said the American president on Friday Donald Trump Continuous threats to make Canada an American state “must stop” before its government can sit for interviews on a updated commercial partnership.
Carney was in London, England, when he finished his first international trip as Prime Minister, who also included a visit to France. The growing trade war with the United States and Trump’s threats to Canada’s sovereignty were taken with the head, Carney looking for deeper ties with European allies.
European leaders were slow to defend Canada against Trump’s rhetoric, but Carney told journalists that Canada could defend itself.
“I don’t think we have to respond to each comment on another country,” he said. “We can defend ourselves.
“We called these comments. They are disrespectful, they are not useful and they must stop. They will have to stop before we sit down and have a conversation on our wider partnership with the United States. ”

Carney said Canada wanted to have “a more complete discussion and a negotiation of our commercial and overall security relationship” with the United States when Trump administration is ready to do so.
“When the United States is ready to have this conversation, we are more than ready to sit down,” he said.
Carney met British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and King Charles III during his visit to London. He told journalists that the king demonstrated that Canada had “a firm defender in our sovereign”.

Starmer declared before his meeting with Carney at 10 Downing Street that the Canada-Uk relationship between “two sovereign allies” was “always strong”.
Starmer’s government has chosen not to retaliate against global prices of 25% of Trump on steel and aluminum, despite Canada. The federal government and the provinces and territories have deployed waves of measures that meet the steel and aluminum prices and sweeping 25% of tasks on Canadian products imposed at the start of the month on border security.
Carney said that he “did not try to organize coordinated reprisals” among the allies who will make their own decisions about how to respond to Trump’s trade policies.
He also admitted that there was a limit to Canada’s ability to match American dollar rates for a dollar given the relative size of the two savings, but has not excluded other reprisals once Trump’s “reciprocal” prices start on April 2 as promised.
“We are not going to take a measure which, in our view, will not influence the United States, and certainly not too harmful to Canada,” he said.

Earlier Monday, he met French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris to discuss what Carney described as “deeper security and military cooperation” as well as deeper economic ties.
In the joint opening remarks before their meeting at the Palais d’Elysee, Carney stressed that Canada and France shared the values of sovereignty, solidarity and sustainability and must strengthen their links.
“With you, Mr. President, I want to make sure that France and all of Europe work with enthusiasm with Canada, the most European countries of non-European countries, determined, like you, to maintain the most positive relations possible with the United States,” said Carney in English.
“(IT) is more important than ever for Canada to strengthen its links with reliable allies like France,” added Carney.
Carney has also said that Canada and France know that economic cooperation, not confrontation, will help build solid savings.
Macron called Canada a “single friend” with a shared vision of freedom. He also underlined a deep strategic partnership for commerce, defense, environmental protection and the creation of new technologies, while seeing a veiled blow to Trump’s pricing policies.
“We believe that fair trade that respects international rules is a good thing for everyone’s prosperity, and it is much more effective than prices that simply create inflation and destroy the integration of our economies and our supply chain,” he said.

Carney’s trip to Europe occurs only a few days after taking an oath as Prime Minister of Canada on Friday. He will fly north of Canada on Tuesday after finishing the visit.
The Royal Family X Account shared a photo of King Charles with Carney at their meeting, but did not mention what was discussed.
The meetings take place in the midst of the uncertainty of world trade while Trump slapped prices on the American allies, including Canada and the European nations, with more threats to come next month.
Trump also increased his threats to Canada’s sovereignty, qualifying the Canadian-American border as “artificial line” Alongside the secretary general of NATO, Mark Rutte, who has not rejected.
Trump’s rhetoric was defended by members of his administration, notably Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who Called it an “economic” argument on Canadian soil last week.
On Sunday, Carney spoke to the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during which he “reaffirmed the unwavering support of Canada for Ukraine” in his fight against the invasion of Russia, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office.
