Andrew Cuomo may be from Queens, but he now has the support of Brooklyn in a major way.

The Rodneyse Bichotte-Hermelyn assembly, head of the Brooklyn Democratic Party, approved Cuomo for the mayor of New York on Sunday during a rally in downtown Brooklyn.

“We really need someone who has experienced,” said Bichotte-Hermelyn. “We need someone who can launch the ground. New York is the most difficult city to manage, and with the current administration with which we have to face, we need someone who can fight this.”

What you need to know

  • The assembly Rodneyse Bichotte-Hermelyn, leader of the Brooklyn Democratic Party, approved Cuomo for the mayor of New York on Sunday
  • Approval is a major setback for mayor Eric Adams re -election of the offer, because the assembly is one of the allies closest to the mayor
  • Bichotte-Hermelyn will play a role in Cuomo’s campaign as a main political advisor while her husband, Edu Hermelyn, will be a political advisor
  • By announcing approval, the member said that the city needed a person with experience and the ability to resist the Trump administration

Bichotte-Hermelyn was one of the most faithful supporters of the mayor Eric Adams. His approval from Cuomo is a major setback for Adams, whose winning coalition of four years ago included his support.

“It is not an adams anti-aircraft campaign; it is a pro-cuomo campaign to direct the city,” she said.

“(Adams) has announced, a little, that he directed an independent campaign and for us, as a Democratic leader, I must support a democrat,” said Bichotte-Hermelyn about his decision to support Cuomo instead of Adams.

Her support for Cuomo is a whole change compared to almost four years ago when she called for the resignation of the governor of the time following allegations of sexual harassment.

“In this case, I know that many people had probably asked him prematurely that he resigns, including me. But it is a learned lesson that we should really allow people to have their fair share in the courts, as well as a regular procedure, “she said.

Edu Hermelyn, the assembly husband, works on Cuomo’s campaign as a political advisor. BICHOTTE-HERMELYN will also play a role in the campaign as a main executive advisor.

“It is a question of unifying the Democratic Party, of mobilizing the Democratic Party so that we can operate this city and put this city to full capacity. And it is a big step in this direction,” said Cuomo.

Cuomo had this to say about a former criticism becoming an ally: “She looked at all the facts and examined the challenges and examined the problems we have to solve and what we are dealing with here in New York – because we have serious problems. And his judgment was that I would be the best person to lead the city.”

With the approval of Bichotte-Hermelyn comes the support of the Brooklyn Democratic Party and other key allies of the crowded breed.

“He also built a playground in my community. My community has the least parks on the 51 districts of the municipal council. It is therefore someone who really cared and was intentional in the district 45, “said municipal councilor Farah Louis.

“It’s great for him. We are the district of the number one in the city. I can say that we are the most diverse district in the city. This will be a big boost, “said Henry Butler, vice-president of the Brooklyn Democratic Party.

“Eric Adams has done a wonderful job as far as I am concerned. He tried to do everything he could with the incredible circumstances that have been confronted with him in the past three and a half years. We must now move on, and I think thatrew Cuomo is the person to achieve, “said Frank Seddio, the former leader of the Brooklyn Democratic Party.
