One of the largest cities in Ontario began to remove the American flags from its facilities and plans to install giant Canadian symbols as tensions between the two countries continue.

Mississauga, which is located immediately west of Toronto, said the process in the weekend was underway to remove the American flags from its buildings.

Mayor Carolyn Parrish announced in a social media position on Saturday, saying that he came “at the request of many”.

Parrish said that the city would remove stars and steering stripes in sports arenas and in various places at the tip of Lake Ontario.

“The oversized Canadian flags (15’x30 ‘) are ordered and will be installed on all the posts in the Town Hall,” she wrote.

The decision to return the flag comes as US President Donald Trump continues threats to annex Canada and make the 51st US state. The White House is also in the middle of a bitter litigation of trade and prices with its neighbor.
