Forest fires rage in Oklahoma and Texas, posing serious health risks

A series of rapidly evolving forest fires broke out today through Oklahoma and Texas, powered by extreme winds reaching up to 80 mph. The fires have already led to evacuations in Oklahoma communities, with generalized power outages affecting more than 220,000 houses. The National Weather Service has issued warnings from the red flag, signaling high fire potential due to dry conditions, strong winds and hot temperatures. »»

Direct relief forest fires response

Direct relief contributes to its network of health care providers organizations to provide support and assess needs. Forest Smoke Health Risks

Forest fires have significant health risks, in particular by inhaling smoke. Forest fire smoke contains toxic particles and gases, which can cause respiratory problems such as cough, whistling breathing and difficulty breathing. People with existing respiratory problems, in particular asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases or heart disease, are particularly vulnerable, as exposure can exacerbate symptoms and increase the risk of heart attacks and brain vascular accidents.

Studies have also linked prolonged exposure to forest fire smoke with increased mortality, unfavorable birth results and long -term respiratory conditions. “Children, the elderly and those who suffer from pre -existing health problems are the most important.

While Oklahoma and Texas forest fires take place, direct repair remains determined to support the communities faced by the devastating impacts of the forest and environment of forest fires.
