Charleston, W.VA. (WSAZ) – The Virginia -Western Education Committee met on Monday to discuss the Bill of the Chamber 2355.

The sponsor of the bill, del. Joe Statler, R-Monongalia, said that he would get rid of restrictions for college and high school students wishing to play in travel teams.

Jay Cipoletti, the girl’s football team for John Adams Middle School, said he had seen the side effects of current rules.

“Having the opportunity to play in front of a university coach at 12 or 13 is a great opportunity that we do not give our athletes in Virginia-Western,” said Cipoletti.

The WVSSAC has restrictions on the number of games and the practices that players can participate. WVSSAC Executive Director David Price said it was for a reason.

“The lack of surveillance and the time they enter the risk, the risk of injury increases and we know it,” said Price.

Price has also said that giving school sports Priority is better to develop athlete students.

“I leave someone to which I have signed up, so what do we teach children outside of this and I know it is a philosophical thing, but it is always in the bottom of my mind of the way we honor this and how we do this and keep this an extension of the class,” he said.

Cipoletti told legislators that, through experience, coaching, control of the risk of injury and commitment could be done correctly.

“As long as it is managed, it is not a problem and more can be better as long as it is managed with all the people involved.”

Cipoletti said he saw students fight to make decisions when they play with team border teammates without the same rules.

“They have Kentucky players who can practice sports and West Virginia who can only play their school sport or can only play their club sport during the fall. The unfortunate result is that the children of Virginia-Western do not play at school, in college in the fall. »»

The sponsor of the bill, del. Joe Statler, said that if students had games with schedule conflicts, priority would be given to school sports.

The legislators say that the bill goes to the brand of the brand and the passage at the next meeting of the Committee where it would be voted to modify or send to the ground of the Chamber.
