
Houston basketball coach Kelvin Sampson, players discuss Win VS Kansas
Discover the whole Houston basketball coach Kelvin Sampson, and his players had to say after a victory for the Big 12 conference at home against Kansas.
Before the Big 12 tournament went this week to Kansas City, a panel of writers who cover the Big 12 conference for the USA Today Sports Network published its teams with all the conferences and its individual winners for the 2024-25 university basketball season.
The panel voted for the impact transfer of Texas Tech, JT Toppin, as a Big 12 player and newcomers of the year. Kelvin Sampson of Houston and Grant McCasland of Texas Tech shared the honor of the coach of the year Big 12.
Toppin, a 9-inch 6-inch attacker, went transparent to the Big 12 transparent after playing New Mexico as the first year. He collected on average 18.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.2 blocks per game, while firing 55.8%.
It was also a major catalyst to help Texas Tech to a record of 15-5 in game Big 12 and a second place in the conference.
McCasland guided the Red Raiders to a regular season record 24-7. They were tamed to finish seventh according to the pre-season classification of the Big 12, but separated as one of the best of the conference before the playoffs.
As for Sampson, he led the cougars to a second consecutive title of regular season of Big 12. They went 27-4 in total and 19-1 in competition Big 12, their Lone Blemish from a defeat of 82-81 in overtime against Texas Tech. Houston was a must in the top 10 of the top 10 since pre-season polls dropped at the start of the year.
