Friday afternoon, more than 100 scientists, researchers and their supporters presented themselves for the scientific rally outside the State Capitol.

The demonstrators were there to talk about the importance of science and against the federal financing cuts carried out by the Trump administration and led by the Ministry of Government efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk. The event was part of a national day of action in more than 30 American cities, including Washington DC, New York and Los Angeles.

“Who is science to?” Everyone! “Shouted rally lovers.

The people of the Atlanta event have talked about the importance of vaccines, scientific research and the financing of organizations facing cuts, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention based in Atlanta and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Holly Williams worked at the CDC for 20 years. She said that she heard her contacts that chaos affects the remaining researchers.

“People cannot do their job,” said Williams. “People are dismissed. They are rehired, other people are dismissed. Center directors do not even know how many people are dismissed because Doge does not tell them. »»

Meteorologist John Knox said that the NOAA financing cuts will affect private industries, from agriculture to clothes, including your favorite weather application.

“Without Noaa and the information that is collected and the production model, these private sector companies will have to go to Marvege to ask for forecasts,” said Knox.

The rally speakers also included representatives of the Jasmine Clark and Jason Esteves state as well as college teachers of Georgia Tech and Emory University.
