Nashville, TN- The students of the Gordon Ford College of Business (GFCB) of WKU recently launched the annual career trek, a trip of several days designed to connect students with industry professionals and former students. This year’s trip took students to Nashville, TN, where they visited the best companies and have acquired valuable information on various career paths.

The career trek began with an exclusive tour behind the scenes of the Nissan stadium, which houses the Tennessee titans, graciousness of the old Ashton Marcum and Colleen Cooks of WKU. Students were also connected with WKU alumni, Steve Mason and Heather Vincent and their team from Bank of America. Throughout the trip, the students hired with professionals from HCA Healthcare, including the former Lynda Ratliff, as well as Emily Garrett and her team from Ernst & Young, and representatives of Deloitte.

“Career Trek is an invaluable opportunity offered by GFCB to our students. From the moment they enter our vannettes, networking begins – with peers, alumni and professionals during visits to the employer, said Monica Duvall, director of student success. “Our trip to Nashville was an incredible experience, filled with significant connections and information. Students engaged in group discussions in various departments explored the unknown industries, took behind the scenes of the NFL, made a tour of business offices and absorbed all the advice shared with them. The participants of this year were engaged, curious and respectful, presenting an exceptional professionalism and proudly representing WKU and GFCB. »»

Career trek is an annual GFCB initiative to fill the gap between academics and industry. By engaging with professionals in their respective fields, students broaden their networks, acquire career ideas and develop a more in -depth understanding of the skills necessary to succeed in the business world.
