Mobility, work, security and the energy economy fundamentally shape our daily life. No matter where people live, these four areas considerably influence our family life, our work environment and our community interactions.
People around the world recognize the challenges associated with these subjects. However, there is a sense of dominant optimism on the impact of each area. This optimism creates opportunities for businesses and governments to collaborate, taking advantage of science and innovation to meet the most urgent challenges of today.
“As the world leader in science, technology and material manufacturing, 3M is only positioned and committed to paving the way with transformative solutions,” said 3M companies scientist and science defender, Dr. Jayshree Seth. “We are devoting ourselves to innovation and resolution of scientific problems to provide evolutionary and effective solutions to a world wishing for progress, with a promise to help build a better future for everyone.”
In partnership with Morning Consult, 3M has conducted original research in the fields of mobility, work, safety and energy to discover the ideas and preferences of people in the world. *
Mobility finds people open to innovation, but prefer personal autonomy
People not only give priority to trips via personal vehicles, but they also adopt innovation in the technology that drives them – especially that they turn to the future. About only 21% only 21% said they had electric or hybrid vehicles today, but about half, 53%, said they would prefer to have one if the cost was not a factor. For the moment, the cost is really a factor: 80% say that this is the main concern they have concerning electric vehicles (electric vehicles). Almost as much, 79%, say that the range of batteries discourages them by buying one, and 78% say that the possibility of finding chargers does the same. Security, the risk of fire and the environmental impact of the production of lithium batteries were, among other concerns.
Fortunately, innovation continues actively addresses these problems. 3M is making progress in battery, adhesive and display technologies that can make electric vehicles lighter, safer and easier to use. For example, 3m glass bubbles Making lighter composite materials, which means that cars built using can be more effective. Specialized 3m adhesives Also allow vehicle manufacturers to disassemble EV batteries more effectively, allowing them to reduce waste, activate repairs and reuse or recycle batteries. And 3m optical films Improve screens in the cabin and vehicle connectivity to stimulate vehicle efficiency, provide passenger entertainment and increase a driver’s capacity to focus on the road.
Manufacturing earns respect, but many think it offers a low salary and lack of employment of employment
Three-quarters of those questioned consider manufacturing jobs as having a positive impact on the economy and 41% associate these jobs with skilled labor. Respect for those who work on manufacturing jobs are raised to 78% and 78% also support the creation of more training possibilities to fill these jobs.
Sixty-five percent of people think that new technologies will lead to more employment opportunities, but 70% say they are concerned about automation removing these jobs. However, a majority, at 71%, is suitable that the workforce needs more manufacturing jobs and 61% believe that the manufacturing labor market should develop over the next five years.
People also recognize the importance of technical skills: 74% say that today’s manufacturers’ jobs require more workers with technological skills. When they were asked if they would run a young person towards certain career paths, 80% said they would advise qualified trades and 78% said that the STEM careers – were closely followed by 75% suggesting green jobs and 68% suggesting manufacturing jobs.
To meet the need for training and opportunities in manufacturing, 3M has launched several initiatives. The company created the Academic manufacturing and partnership program (MAP) To give people training and practical experience with engineering, computer and manufacturing skills, they will have to work in skilled trades. 3M also strengthens its 40 -year partnership with SKILLSThe country’s first development organization organization in the country, to fill the country’s qualified commercial gap by offering more opportunities to young people interested in trades and manufacturing. To draw more attention to the sector and its career promise, 3M has published the documents, QualifiedTo present the actual experiences of four qualified trading workers in plumbing, protection against falls, welding and film production – with an overview of future opportunities.
Security is always a concern, but in an evolving workplace, it takes on a new meaning
Progress technology affects not only the labor market, but the place of physical work where new machines require new types of vigilance. Occupational safety and health administration has identified automation and robotics, including human-robot interaction, as one of the best “work safety landscape” trends From 2025. When people think of health and safety, 60% of them say that their concern extends to the workplace, 57% include hobbies, sports and the house and 62% extend this to daily activities such as travel and purchases.
Most people, 82% of those questioned, think that employers are responsible for occupational safety and, almost as much, 72%, currently believe that their employers provide necessary safety equipment. A little less to 67% believe that employers provide necessary security training.
The development of products and solutions that ensure people’s safety is a characteristic of 3M innovation. In 2020, the 3M respirator N95 has become a familiar name because it provided vital protection against airborne contaminants linked to the COVVI-19 pandemic. 3M also provides virtual reality modules that form people work at large heightsAnd how to properly carry the harnesses which reduce the risk of potential fall during the execution of this work. High performance reflective road materials Make signage and more visible pedestrian crossings, creating safer environments for everyone, from children to school workers on the road.
Most people consider that new world energy sources are an top priority and turn to science for responses
As the nations emphasize energy security, the emphasis on investment in resilient energy solutions has intensified. Nearly seven out of 10 people expect employment growth in the energy sector over the next decade and 75% believe that their governments should increase investments in the creation of jobs in the clean energy sector.
There is a large support for strategies such as 79%renewable energies, transport specific to 78%, energy efficiency at 77%and nuclear energy at 62%.
3M uses its size, scale and innovation to help treat sustainability. 3M supports development Hydrogen saving– from production to storage and shipping solutions. For example, only ten grams of the innovative Iridium catalyst powder supported nanostructured 3M ™ Can help separate ten tonnes of water from water while preventing 100 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
In addition, a resilient and intelligent electrical network is essential to meet the growing energy requirements of modern economies. 3m supposed cable accessories Provide real -time data on the performance of the electricity network, help public services detect defects, optimize energy distribution and reduce their downtime. By integrating sensors into cable accessories, these intelligent network solutions can help public services improve predictive maintenance, minimize breakdowns and improve global network resilience. The 3M global team is dedicated to driving innovation for customers and 3M positioning as a key collaborator in energy security transition.
People are aware, optimistic and confident
In the four critical areas of mobility, work, security and energy economy, a coherent theme emerges: people recognize today’s challenges, are optimistic about the possibilities of tomorrow and believe that solutions reside in the application of science and technology. 3M is held at this intersection, where innovation and converging optimism to generate a positive impact and create a better future for everyone.
*Methodology:
Morning Consult led the survey between November 19 and December 17, 2024, among a national sample of 10,959 adults in each of the 10 countries (United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Brazil, Mexico, China, Japan and South Korea). The interviews were conducted online and the data was weighted to approximate a target adult sample for each market. The results of the complete survey have an error margin of more or less 3 percentage points.
