China Announced Tuesday that it will impose additional prices of up to 15% on imports of main American agricultural products, including chicken, pork, soybeans and beef, and also widening business controls with the main American companies.
The prices announced by the Ministry of Commerce should take effect from March 10, although the goods already in transit are exempt until April 12. They follow the order of American president Donald Trump to increase prices on imports of Chinese products to 20% in all areas. Those entered into force Tuesday, as well as 25% of import prices from Canada and Mexico.
Imports of chicken, wheat, corn and cultivated American cotton will face an additional 15%rate, said a notice from the ministry. The prices on sorghum, soy, pork, beef, seafood, fruits, vegetables and dairy products will be increased by 10%.
Also on Tuesday, Beijing placed 10 other American companies on its unreliable entities list, which would prevent them from engaging in importing or export activities related to China and making new investments in the country. Some are already facing trade restrictions with China if their products can be used for military and civil purposes.
The companies listed are TCOM, limited partnership; Stick Rudder Enterprises LLC; Teledyne Brown Engineering; Huntington Ingalls Industries; S3 aerodefense; Cumbic Corporation; Textore; Federal Act1; Exofera and Planate Management Group.
In addition, China has added 15 American companies to its export control list, including aerospace and defense companies such as General Dynamics Land Systems and General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, among others.
“China has decided to include 15 American entities that endanger national security and the interests of China in the list of exports, prohibiting the export of double -use items,” the ministry said in a statement.

While the prices that Beijing has imposed on American agricultural products are sweeping away, China prevented itself from imposing higher prices in all areas, and “the two parties have shown reservoir,” said Sun Chenghao, professor of international relations at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

“The United States hoped to obtain a trade agreement with China at the end,” said Sun. “In the long term, it is possible that China and the United States continue to negotiate, but the current atmosphere is not good.”
By increasing the prices, the United States has reimbursed the kindness with enmity, said the spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Lin Jian.
“I would like to repeat that the Chinese people have never been afraid of evil, do not believe ghosts and have never been intimidated,” said Lin.
China is an important importer of American agricultural products, although his purchases dropped after Trump launched a trade war during his first mandate, then recovered. In 2024, China imported $ 24.7 billion in agricultural products from the United States, or 14% of its $ 176 billion in total agricultural exports. Mexico was the largest importer of American agricultural products, followed by Canada.

The Chinese trade ministry included around two dozen American agricultural exports subject to additional 15%tariffs, including chicken feet and wings, and 711 items subject to an additional 10%rate.
In 2021-222, the United States recorded record export values to China for soybeans, corn, beef, chicken meat, trees and sorghum. Cotton exports to China also rebounded, according to the American department of agriculture. US agricultural exports to China totaled $ 33.8 billion during the year 2023 and 36.4 billion dollars during the year 2022.
China diversifies its sources of agricultural imports, buying more soy in Brazil and Argentina, among other producers.
Beijing is ready to retaliate, said Xu Botao, research director of the Goglobal Institute in Equalicean, a Chinese reflection group based in Shanghai “the Chinese government and Chinese companies will not be easily frightened and renounce to resist the unjust trade pressure from the United States and other countries,” XU said.
The end result will depend on how the American side is approaching Beijing, analysts said.
“So far, the United States has not sent a positive signal. If the United States wants to speak, that should not damage the atmosphere, “said Sun.
