Business was as usual at the meeting of Washington County Commissioners Thursday morning.
The two elements of the agenda were the discussion of the broadband pilot project and the safety of the Jiomeansjobs at 311 Third St. in Marietta.
The commissioners approved bills and discussed any existing delay costs.
Shortly after, they approved the travel request to Alice Stewart to attend the national conference on children’s abuse and negligence in Rockville, Md., From April 1 to 3. They also approved Allison Hutchings and Christiana Cantrell to go to Columbs to attend the search for words from Ohio from March 23 to 28.
The commissioners addressed the first discussion on the broadband pilot project. According to Commissioner James Booth, the project’s objective is to provide fast speed Internet to community members living in rural areas.
“This is a pilot project that uses an in-asphalt fiber to provide access to the middle of the high speed mile”, “ said stand.
If they are approved, the commissioners would work with the county engineer to install the fiber on the road. In order for this project to continue, the Board of Directors should agree and move forward with a partnership with a supplier who would then work with the county.
“We must have agreements in place of the engineer, then a Broadbandohio documentation to ensure the council that the reimbursement is there”, “ said Commissioner Charlie Schilling.
According to Booth, there are around 52 poles installed and they would draw all the locations.
“The speed of the installation is also very attractive and they can make one mile per day, so it would be a three -day project”, “ said stand.
The grant program should reimburse the installation up to 75% of the cost. The partnership would then potentially cover the other 25%.
The Commission agreed to continue the discussion of the Hautbantohio as it progresses.
The following article on the agenda was brought to the attention of the commissioners by the director of the agency of the Department of Employment and Family of the County of Washington, Flite Freimann.
“Less than 100 meters from the place where I stand, there is a homeless camp which raped the city law”, “ said Freimann, referring to the Ohiomeansjobs building at 311 Third St., Marietta. “I am here today to tell you that the actions of the city endanger the county employees, endangering the property of the county and harm our efforts of economic development.”
OMJ employees have witnessed violations such as public nudity, defecation and drug abuse just outside their workplace.
According to Reunion employees on Thursday, they were told that the camp would be temporary in order to give people a chance. The camp has been working for about four months and OMJ employees feel dangerous by walking towards their cars.
“I will examine this by concern for security for our employees and if they are not safe, we have a real problem”, “ said Schilling.
Washington County Sheriff Mark Warden will address these violations with the police chief to solve these problems.
“Being a homeless is not illegal, they have permission to be there, but if their actions although they are there constitute an illegal activity, that cannot be overlooked,” said Schilling.
The discussion ended with a general agreement that the necessary measures had to be taken.
