The city of Lansing is closer to a decision on the opportunity to outsource the management of its entertainment places. The Lansing Entertainment and Public Facilities Authority Board (LEPFA) met on Tuesday to discuss its plans.
On the table is an initial contract of contract of the ASM Global site management company, but negotiations must still begin. If it is approved, ASM Global would supervise sites, including the Lansing Center, the Groesbeck Golf Course and Jackson Field.
The president of the LEPFA board of directors, Maureen McNulty Saxton, said that the board of directors would carefully examine the contract with her lawyer next week.
“This is a major difference from the management of the center of Lansing since its creation,” said Saxton. “Obviously, the management company plans to make a profit – just like any business – and we must therefore make our diligence reasonable to ensure that we know what we are entering.”
The next step will consist of the board of directors’ finance committee to meet the lawyer, which Saxton said they should do soon.
She stressed that the Board of Directors carefully weighs the contract proposed to ensure a fiscally responsible decision for the City. Although a vote in March is possible, there is no certainty that this will happen.
