The British Columbia Opposition Head, John Rustad, offers a “carbon tax” on American thermal coal which is shipped to British Columbia ports to use as a leverage against threats of American tariffs on Canadian wood in tender wood.
Rustad says that such a tax would be a “tool to retaliate” on the prices and tender wood duties offered by the American president Donald Trump, who, according to the Minister of Forests, delighted Parmar, last week, could pass more 50%.

He says that until “unjust and unjustified” American tasks on the flexible wood of British Columbia are deleted, the province needs “to be ready to strike the Americans where it hurts”.
The conservatives of British Columbia had previously declared that “rather than to retaliate and exacerbate” the pricing threat, it should be considered an “opportunity to quickly advance the economy of British Columbia”.

Rustad today has distinguished itself between reprisals with prices and the application of a “tax on graduated carbon” which would increase until British Columbia obtains a timber agreement.

He says that 18 million tonnes of American thermal coal are shipped by Vancouver, but the province does not use it.
Rustad also proposed a ban on American financing for environmental activists in British Columbia, which he described as “disorder profane” who lost time of police and courts and “trained our resources industries thanks to expensive litigation ”.
The NPD in matters of governance calls for the appeal for unanimous approval for a motion condemning Trump and supporting a national plan for “a strategically targeted reprisal action”.
