Baltimore Development Corporation: Creation of live backup technology in Baltimore
THANK YOU. Baltimore black entrepreneurs are advanced medical devices, diagnoses fueled by AI and health care solutions that save life. And all thanks in part to the Baltimore Together initiative. The founder and CEO of June Brain. Doctor Samantha Scott. And the founder and CEO of Mother Systems, Jabez Ianacho. GOOD MORNING. So you brought us things, but tell me about your business. FIRST OF ALL. We will start with you. OF COURSE. So, June Brain, we have developed this helmet powered by AI. He scans the back of the eye to help assess brain health in any context. The eye is therefore actually connected to the brain. It is a window on the brain. Thus, people with neurological disease, such as multiple sclerosis, even Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, these changes appear in the eyes. Our device is therefore really intended to make surveillance more accessible. So it would be something that would cost the cost? Maybe not comparable, but as adjacent to an MRI? YES. Adjacent to. That’s right. It is therefore intended to complete many of these tools such as MRI which can be difficult to access regularly. It is therefore a faster and easier way to help monitor and diagnose the disease. And they can also be very expensive. Yes, it’s very true. YEAH. And so tell us about your business. YEAH. So, the armor systems, you know, our mission and our mandate is to save lives, right? So we ask the question, what happens if each soldier could be a doctor? We make rescue devices that help prevent bleeding and hemorrhage and injuries. So, the idea is, you know, every day, you know, there are car accidents. There are accidents. And when you bleed or have a vascular event, you need accessible tools, easy to use. And we have therefore created a series of products that allow laity, fighters, first stakeholders save their own lives or their loved ones. In the event of an injury. Where do you get these ideas from? Because it is a really cool technology and it can really help people in real time. And obviously, in a very tangible way that we can imagine immediately. So where do you get these ideas from? Yeah, of course. I am therefore a scientist who has become patient. I was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disease the same year that I started June Brain, and it took me five years to be diagnosed. And this is not uncommon because it is very difficult. You know, it’s a trip from top to bottom to diagnose many of these diseases. So this is where it came in a more accessible and faster way to help and improve patient care. Yeah, absolutely. And what about you. Similar I think personal experience is life. I think we have personally suffered a very bad car accident where I almost bled to death. And it was really an impact, you know, the experience. But also friends who were fighters and civilians who acquire car accidents, bleed and simply prehospital injuries are really common, and they are a main cause of preventable death. So we were that you know, I am a biomedical engineer and clinical researcher in training. And we therefore invented this device and had a lot of interest and support from the veterans community. And that’s what started our trip years ago. I think it’s incredible that you both have had these incidents that change life, no. Be diagnosed with it and you obviously have a very traumatic car accident and use it to really push things in the future and help others. Now let’s talk about the reason why Baltimore, because your two companies are here. Why this city? YEAH. So you know, we are a transplant. Our company therefore started in Atlanta. We were in Boston. But over the years, we realized that Baltimore was the best place to settle down. Baltimore has a lot of large institutions, you know, for our what we are doing. Baltimore is actually a leader in trauma technology, right? So you have a Baltimore shock trauma. You have Hopkins, you have a medical command and Frederick and decision -makers and political decision -makers at DC. It is therefore this perfect fusion of institutions and the community that meet. So, just on the one hand technological, you know, and on the one hand customer, it’s just an ideal place for Med Tech. The regulators are there, the FDA. So it just made sense to come to work here. And then being a black company in this city too, the accent is very important to ensure that black entrepreneurs succeed. YES. It’s so true. So there is in fact a very favorable startup community here. So, even Baltimore Development Corporation and here you have many Baltimore organizations that support the founders. And it is if it is fundraising, giving us an exhibition, which is very useful. So yes, and it is a very diverse city, which is great to develop our technologies. Well, guys, thank you very much for joining you. And thank you for putting forward this incredible technology that can help save lives and even diagnose EV people
