Stellantis NV says that it has developed an internal automated driving system which aims to facilitate travel in dense urban areas, drivers capable of removing their hands and the eyes of the road.
The manufacturer of JEEP and RAM vehicles said in an ad Thursday that the new Stla Autodrive 1.0 technology can manage travel for the purposes at a lower speed of up to 37 MPH – taking speed control, steering and braking .

He said that future platform updates, which are considered to be level 3 automation, could unlock speeds up to 59 MPH, as well as off-road automation for certain models.
You will not yet find the technology of Stellantis vehicles, and a decision on the launching calendar has not been made. While the platform is ready to leave, the level 3 autonomous driving market remains “very limited”, said Dan Reid, spokesperson for Stellantis, in an email.
More advanced vehicles now Generally offer up to level 2 Automation, which may include adaptive cruise control, track center and self-removal. The highest level of automation classification, according to SAE International, is level 5, where a car can behave in all kinds of conditions.
“Once the market opens and becomes more receptive, we will move forward with the introduction of this advanced technology,” said Reid. The locations where Stellantis pushes to introduce Autodrive has not been revealed first, but Reid said that the regions with “dense urban environments” would be priority to support daily shuttle.
Stellantis said in a press release that the technology will allow the driver to leave the eyes of the steering wheel and carry out activities, in particular by catching emails, reading a book or watching a film. It can be activated with a physical button and uses a series of sensors that can be cleaned in bad weather.
At higher speeds, the automaker said that Autodrive can go to an adaptive cruise control. This would mean going to semi-autonomous modes that still require hands to rest on the steering wheel or an intermediate option which allows the hands to get out of the steering wheel but require that the eyes remain on the road.
Stellantis already offers this technology as a package On several vehicles, the hands -free component working on certain approved roads. Other car manufacturers have similar semi-autonomous driving technology, such as Ford Motor Co BluecruiseGeneral Motors Co. Great cruiseand tesla AutopilotBut they have at least certain limitations, including compatible roads and forcing the eyes that remain alert or that sometimes the hands remain on the steering wheel.
But other car manufacturers move in level 3, notably Mercedes-Benz Group AG, who says This is the first to obtain level 3 certification in the United States with a technology that makes it possible to drive free and eyes under certain limited conditions.
