What aroused your interest in the environmental sciences?
Growing up, I wanted to be a marine biologist. I know, a daring statement by a kansas girl. I found great pleasure in the natural world and the creatures around us. While I continued to grow and learn, I started to see the environmental crisis we met. However, I also noticed that our health and basic needs – food, water and shelter – depend on systems that are in danger. I saw environmental health as the most preventive medicine as possible. Rather than healing a single disease, environmental health focuses on the healing of systems that caused the disease. I knew that I wanted a profession that helped people and animals, plants and terrestrial systems that make our island at home so beautiful. Environmental health does exactly this.
Why did you choose Johns Hopkins?
I love the interdisciplinary values of the school integrated into the program. I saw them do tangible work in communities and I wanted to be part of something good.
What is your favorite thing in life in Baltimore?
I love her oddity! There are so much cool and niche to do throughout the city that occupies you. In addition, people are just the best.

What was the highest point of your experience so far?
I appreciated all the courses of your choice that I was able to follow. The program is quite flexible and allows you to explore a wide range of options and interests. In addition, I meet so many interesting people in all my classes!
What advice would you give for potential students interested in joining the EHE community?
Take your time. The first year is difficult because the term system is quite an adjustment. It is not as difficult as it seems. Take your time and be intentional with your learning. Try to really dive into all the readings, details and wonderful speakers of your lessons. You will get much more from the program if you provide intentionality to your work.
What are your interests outside of your studies?
I am a great marathon runner and I like climbing. I also like to read when I can.
