Morten Bødskov, Minister of Denmark in Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, visited Houston in February 2025 to focus on renewable energies, waste management and trade links between Denmark and Texas.

Morten Bødskov, Minister of Industry, Affairs and Financial Affairs in Denmark, went to Houston on Monday and Tuesday. His visit focused on renewable energies, waste management and commercial links in Denmark-Texas.

“Texas plays a huge role in Danish companies,” said Bødskov, pointing renewable energies and expeditions as the main industries. “Houston is in many ways, to say, at the center of all these activities.”

According to the Trade Council of Denmark in North America, trade between the two countries has supported more than 14,000 jobs in Texas and 200,000 jobs in the United States in 2022. Manufacturer, Biofuel Endeavour and Tire Recycling Company, respectively.

Bødskov’s visit occurred for a period of tense relations between Denmark and the United States

President Donald Trump has called to the United States to acquire GreenlandAn autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, and a member of the Republican Congress has introduced legislation to rename the island “Red, White and Blueland.” Denmark leaders have repeatedly said that Greenland was not for sale, while Trump threatened with prices if Denmark does not cooperate – in addition to potential Tit-for-tat prices with the European Unionwho counts Demark among its members.

“Prices and taxes are not the right way to follow,” said Bødskov. “Through generations, we have extremely close links and obligations between Denmark and the United States, I mean, we have held shoulder in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. We have developed our companies through generations. some of the world’s cutting -edge companies have been here and have been here for decades according to a mutual understanding on the way we advance, how we create growth, How we invest in each other.

“So, new taxes and prices-quite simply not the right way to follow,” he continued. “My message is that we have to build a stronger relationship, not a weaker relationship. The world in which we live now needs stronger relationships, and especially between Denmark and the United States”

In addition to Conversations on energy production And commercial investments, Bødskov explores a memorandum of understanding which “will focus on sustainable waste management practices and will formalize collaboration between Denmark and Houston to meet the challenges of waste management on both sides of the Atlantic” .

The minister initially planned to sign the agreement with the Houston Clean City Commission, but these plans have changed. The details remain rare on which the party based in Houston will sign the memorandum and what the document will contain. Bødskov described the memo as “a working document, to say, which sets up the guidelines for future work together”.

“It is a perfect example to find areas where we can invest together, where our businesses can advance each other,” he said. “We have introduced new technologies to solve problems. The purpose of these memorandum is to help each other so that Houston can learn from Denmark, then we can invest in this area here so that we can better manage waste management in the future. “”
