VCU Health hires a vice-president inaugural for advanced practice providers

The new position will oversee strategic initiatives to improve the roles of highly qualified members of the health system labor.

Paula Brooks, DNP, MBA, FNP-BC, RNFA, Fappex, will serve as an inaugural associate vice-president of advanced practice suppliers for MCV doctors, medical practice of VCU health. She will start her new role on April 1.

As Associate Vice-President (AVP) of advanced practice providers (APPS), Brooks will be responsible for vision and strategic initiatives for the workforce of applications in terms of alignment with mission, vision and priorities of the VCU health system. In this role, she will collaborate with executive leadership and will report directly to the president of MCV Physicians. The workforce of the application includes highly qualified members of the health system that manage and deal with many conditions. They include nurses Practitioner (NP), certified clinical nurses (CNSS), certified nurses-infirmia (CNMS) and certified (CRNA) nurses (CRNA), to name just a few.

Brooks’ responsibilities will include the improvement and progression of the roles of nurses authorized in advanced practice (APRN) and medical assistants (AP), serving as an expert resource and promoting an environment that promotes advanced practice and professional development through the health system.

Brooks brings more than 30 years of exemplary experience as a leader in health establishments. More recently, she was responsible for providers of advanced practices at Baystate Health in Springfield, Massachusetts, where she provided strategic leadership for a team of more than 450 advanced practice providers. Previously, she held the position of director of advanced practice for nurses authorized in advanced practice at the South Carolina Medical University.

Brooks is an active member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the American Nurses Association and Advanced Practice Provider Manice (APPX). She also held positions at the level of the board of directors in several professional organizations. Her commitment to excellence extends to the academic world, where she has contributed to several university journals.

Brooks obtained a baccalaureate in nursing sciences and a master’s degree in science as a family infirmer at the University of Massachusetts. Later, she obtained a doctor in nursing practice from the same institution. In addition, she obtained a certification as a nurse registered with the Northeastern University and completed a master’s degree in business administration by emphasizing the administration of health care.
