Taking care of the Austin arts and entertainment scene occurs on several levels, and a new office of arts, culture, music and entertainment (ACME) centralizes some of the city’s responsibilities in the field. The new office was announced by the municipal director TC Broadnax on Friday, February 14.
This does not necessarily mean more work or major new initiatives, although it can certainly lead to those in time. The main idea is simply to link existing local government structures so that they can work more effectively together. A city newsletter explains that what was previously five departments – dealing separately from music, special events, cultural centers and heritage, cultural arts and art in public places – is now a new office.
“Austin’s identity is closely linked to the arts, culture, music and entertainment,” said Broadnax as cited in the bulletin. Raise Austin’s profile as a cultural destination. »»
The office will be led by director Angela Means, an internal rental that has recently been interim director Austin parks and leisure service. Professional experience means more operational than cultural, with past responsibilities largely linked to budgetary responsibility, the analysis of services and collaboration between the departments.
According to existing departments, various websites, some of their programs and services included the supply of grants and funding for creatives, to provide professional development paid to local musicians, to create reports to follow Austin’s cultural assets, Deliver permits for festivals and help creatives and creative companies to navigate codes of the city.
“Our arts, culture, music and entertainment industries are what makes Austin unique and special,” said Mayor Kirk Watson. “Austin is envied by others Because of the talent we have here. I appreciate the municipal director for having listened to our creative community about the need for this office, and I think she will continue to show Austin’s commitment to the arts. “”
The new office does not yet appear in the repertoire of the city of Austin services. New information is generally added to a page with contact details, a list of services and other advice and ads relevant to the public.
