A large part of the United States faced another biting bite cycle on Sunday, with torrential rains causing intense floods in Kentucky and causing at least eight deaths in the Southeast.
The northern plains were faced with deadly cold and tornado watches were published for parts of Georgia and Florida.
A 7 -year -old mother and child were one of the people killed in Kentucky when their car was swept away by flood waters in Hart County near Interstate 65, said County County Coroner Tony Roberts .
In south-eastern Kentucky, a 73-year-old man was found dead in flood waters in Clay County, said Deputy Director of County Emergency Management, Revelle Berry.
Hundreds of people had to be saved from sudden floods caused by the storm which also eliminated power from around 40,000 houses.

Kentucky governor Andy Beshear said on Sunday that President Trump approved his request for help funding in the event of a disaster.
Some parts of Kentucky and Tennessee received up to 6 inches (15 centimeters) of rain during weekend storms, said Bob Oravec, a senior Weather Service forecaster.
“The effects will continue for a while, a lot of swollen streams and a lot of current floods,” said Oravec on Sunday. “Whenever there are floods, floods can last much longer than rain.”

Serious storms also swept through parts of Florida and Georgia, where tornado watches were in force early Sunday, the National Weather Service said.

In Atlanta, a person was killed when an “extremely large tree” fell into a house early on Sunday, according to Atlanta Captain Fire Rescue Scott Powell. He told journalists that firefighters were sent just before 5 a.m. after a call at 911.
Elsewhere, frightening cold is expected for the northern plains with low temperatures in the least 30 s near the Canadian border.

The hospital said it would reassess the conditions on Sunday morning to determine when it can reopen safely.
The northern fork of the Kentucky river was to creak at almost 14 feet (4.3 meters) above the flood stadium that afternoon, the weather service said.
Photos published by authorities and residents on social networks have shown cars and buildings underwater in the South Center and East Kentucky. In Buchanan County, Virginia, the Sheriff’s Office said that several roads were blocked by mudslides.
The Simpson County Emergency Management Office in Kentucky said the authorities were carrying out several rescue of blocked vehicles in flood waters.
“Stay at home if you can,” said the office on Facebook.

Oravec said on Sunday that snowfall in the region were relatively light, due to the mixture of rain and freezing gries.
